What is it about the gun registry that has those on the left so convinced that it actually does anything worthy of keeping it, and the records, around? I was reading an article in the paper today and here is what NDP Justice critic Jack Harris had to say,
"The Ruger Mini-4 semi-automatic rifle was the weapon used by Marc Lepine in Canada's worst ever mass shooting in Montreal," declared NDP justice critic Jack Harris during question period. "Now the government wants to remove restrictions from this weapon and others like it. As if trashing years of valuable registry records, in spite of victims' pleas, was not enough, now the government is removing controls over high-powered rifles."
Now, besides the fact that this rifle is not restricted..
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews rejected claims the Tories would "remove restrictions" from the rifle Harris mentioned since it's long been unrestricted and will remain so.
It always puzzles me when I read these kinds of statements, exactly how would the registry records ever stop such an attack from taking place. Would the killer say to himself, "Whoa, I can't use this weapon today, it's in the long gun registry files".
Or the argument I heard a Liberal apologist use on Charles Adler's show a while back, saying that the police use the registry to let the officer approaching a residence know that there is a registered long gun rifle inside and that they need to approach this residence with caution. So, on the flip side, would the same officer, after accessing the registry and finding no listing of a weapon, would this officer then approach the residence with less caution?
Not the ones that I have spoken to. They are trained to approach every situation with a high level of caution, alertness and attention to detail, every situation, the fact that there may or may not be a registered weapon in the home is inconsequential, they always assume the worst, it's what keeps them alive.
What is the real reason for the push back on this from those on the left? Is it really that they believe in the registry? No, the real reason is, they are seeing these useless pieces of legislation being removed, one by one, and with them, their own identity. Why do they bitch and moan so much about the CWB having their monopoly over Western grain farmers taken away? Same reason, do you think they really believe that such an unfair practice is acceptable in today's market?
And the same can be said for the CBC, they see the government slowly, and I do mean slowly, working towards the defundning of the Can't Be Conservative network and it is killing them. How will they afford to produce Conservative embarrasing machines like THH22 minutes, complete with Mary "Peter McKay is a Conservative Arse" Walsh?
No, it's not about saving the CWB or the Long gun registry, it's about self preservation for those on the left, something that they can obviously feel slipping away with every move that PM Stephen Harper and the Conservative government make.

Its becoming a tired statement, but, all you have to do is look at Greece and Spain and Italy and to a larger extent, California to see a future where the Left's power goes unchecked. Only a socialistic leftist would think that an Ontario farmer should have more freedoms then a Western Canadian farmer. Only a socialistic leftist would think that the best way to get out of debt is to go into debt more, when, we've been trying that for 40 years now and all we've got out of it is more debt. It really is bizarre.
Lowell Green has a great take on it in his latest book, "Here's proof only only we Conservatives have our heads screwed on straight", where he lists the number of times that Conservatives have come in and cleaned up the mess that the previous Liberal government had left behind.

Even today, CAIR canada( pro Shariah Whahabbi based funded islamic org linked to hamas funding) spews their propaganda on the CBC that all the Honour Killing are actaully Domestic Violence issues all across canada's populations.
Hand gun laws came in in the mid 1930's, the bozo's and yahoos against guns fail to point out the issue is Long-Gun registery which means Rifles and not a gang-banger pistols that they do not register.
Now that Justin Trudeau was in the news for the Guns he had that were stolen from his country resort, will the NDP attack him as a moron and part of the gangs and guns crisis?
